English is so broad and offers a range of perspectives and creative outlets. My desire is to see young people develop a greater appreciation for the subject of English. My love and enthusiasm for English is always developing and expanding."

Name: Mrs Scott
Title/Subject: English Teacher

Career background: Through different teaching experiences across a vast range of schools, I have taught and understood students in different areas of learning. I have been fortunate enough to teach in independent schools, public schools, private schools and special schools. I have taught a vast range of subjects from Geography, Visual Arts, Drama and Music to English, English Studies and History. I have had experience teaching early primary, all the way through to senior high school. Though my time so far has been unique and diverse, it has grown and matured me in my experience.

My teaching approach/style: I believe that engagement in learning is of utmost importance, but I have also learnt that building and believing in each individual student for who they are and what they can bring to the classroom plays an integral part of a student’s holistic educational experience. My style of teaching is built upon understanding the students and their individual ways of learning. As well as this, I aim to affirm and encourage every student in their own individual growth and am excited that they will eventually have that “light bulb” moment.

I love: I love that you aren’t only just gaining a wholesome educational experience but you are encouraged in your faith and journey with God. Summerland is built upon supporting and nurturing the individual in all aspects of their world.

FUN BITS - Teacher inspiration: When I was in Year 10, one of my teachers said to me very seriously, “You won’t be able to achieve very good results in Mathematics”. From that day, I vowed to myself that I wanted to be a teacher that encourages, supports and always says to my students, “YOU CAN, if you just try”.
