“Creativity takes courage!” claimed Henri Matisse. If we believe this to be true, then our Summerland’s Visual Art students are brave indeed! Nearing the finish line of their creative journey, each student has recently completed their major works or ‘Body of Work’ after countless hours of painstaking process.

Secondary Art Teacher, Margot See, is extremely pleased with her class. “This year the team spirit between our small group of eight HSC art students was tremendous. A B.O.W (Body of Work) is a reasonably challenging undertaking. The works need to have an authentic and meaningful concept that flows through the collection and the choice of form needs to the best to express it. In this case painting and photography has to be seen to be the right choice that best undergirds the artist’s ideas - as well as being technically proficient and imaginative.”

Each student began with an initial and inspirational thought that they were motivated to develop further. They endeavoured to explore this originality, evolving thoughts into works imbued with strong resolution and meaning. To achieve this end the student’s have been expertly guided by Mrs. See and Mr. Richard Dymock.

Van Gough once said “I dream of painting and then I paint my dream”. Our 2017 Visual Art HSC students have lived Van Gough’s words through paint and photography. Why not come and see for yourself? Our current HSC Body of Work is on display in the CrossWays.

Be transported. Seek meaning. Sojourn with an artist.
