Chloe is currently a year 12 student at our college and went with our school team for a missions trip to Uganda at the end of last year.

She had a unique experience there and the following is a great story from the trip with some personal insights.

A change of perspective

Through our school trip to Uganda I met a lady who’s immigration visa I was helping to process through my parents business (Visa Assist Australia) where I work after school. It was amazing to meet the person we were helping, making the work I was doing real. I thought I had prepared myself well, I even spent time living in Thailand as a child but our trip to Uganda was a massive culture shock! Although I didn’t want to leave Uganda and am already looking forward to going back, I couldn’t wait to come home and share all the experiences we had there with my friends and family.

It was pretty great going to Uganda in year 11, because the perspective I’ve gained toward school has been huge. It’s changed the whole way I look at school & I’m able to throw myself into my year 12 studies, knowing what a privilege it is to be getting an education. >

As children we spent a lot of time in Thailand where my dad was a nurse; helping in refugee camps there. He then went on to retrain as a Lawyer and my mum retrained to be an Immigration Agent to be able to help refugees in a different way. I guess now, I’m keen to get back to Thailand for my gap year after school and see what a difference I can make there. One of my friends is a fashion designer and is starting a business ‘Sweet Society Apparel’ where she will be working with women who have been trafficked (and rehabilitated) by helping them to learn practical sewing skills and ministering to them at the same time. I have lots of options open right now. My favourite subject is legal studies and there is a combined law and music degree at SCU where you can do a year of education at the end too. That could be a possibility.”

Chloe is our current School Captain, a student-leader at her local youth group, achieved band 6 in her Music HSC last year & at an amazing 6ft tall, our resident world-changer!!
